At J&J Healing Journeys, Somatic Experiencing isn't something we add on. It is woven into the fabric of everything we do.
We believe healing is a whole-person experience — and that the body is not a bystander to your healing. It is a co-author of it.
Our work is grounded in deep, rigorous SE training, because this work deserves more than a weekend certification.
Jessica Mathon, clinical supervisor at J&J Healing Journeys, is trained through the official Somatic Experiencing International (SEI) training program and serves as an SE Assistant, a role that reflects both advanced skill and a commitment to supporting others in learning this work deeply. Jessica brings SE not just as a technique, but as a way of being with clients, attuned, present, and body-aware in every session.
Emily Patterson, associate therapist, has completed the full three-year Somatic Experiencing training program, a rigorous, internationally recognized curriculum that prepares clinicians to work skillfully with the nervous system, trauma, and the body's innate healing capacity. Emily's clinical work reflects this embodied foundation at every level.
Together, they bring a level of SE training and integration that is uncommon, and that you will feel from the very first session.
Somatic Experiencing doesn't happen in a silo. At J&J Healing Journeys, it lives inside every modality we offer integrated holistically into the full landscape of your healing.
Whether we are working with EMDR, relational therapy, parts work, or grief and loss, SE informs how we show up with you:

Somatic Experiencing sessions look different for every person because you are different from every other person who has ever walked through our door.
For some, SE work is subtle and quiet. A shift in breath. A softening in the shoulders. A moment where something that has been clenched for years begins to release.
For others, it shows up as movement, trembling, warmth, or the sudden arrival of an emotion that has been waiting a long time to be felt.
You may notice things like:
We go slowly. We pay attention. We follow what your body knows.

SE is particularly powerful for those who have found that talk therapy alone wasn't quite enough — who understood their story in their mind but couldn't get their body to believe it was over.
It can be deeply supportive for:

Healing the nervous system takes time and that is not a flaw in the process. That is the process.
We live in a culture that wants fast results, quick fixes, and efficient outcomes. Somatic Experiencing asks something different of us. It asks us to slow down enough to actually listen to what the body has been trying to say.
In our experience, that slowness is not a detour from healing. It is the healing.
You have been patient with your pain for a long time. We ask only that you bring that same patience to your healing and we will walk every step of it with you.
At J&J Healing Journeys, we are not interested in treating symptoms while ignoring the person beneath them. We are interested in you; the full, complex, layered, beautifully human you.
Your body is not a problem to be managed. It is a wise, resilient, living system that has been doing its best — and that is ready, with the right support, to find its way back to ease.
You don't have to stay stuck in what your nervous system learned to survive. There is more available to you. And we would be honored to help you find it.
