 EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a research-backed therapy approach used to treat trauma, PTSD, anxiety, and grief. Rather than requiring you to talk extensively about painful memories, EMDR uses guided eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation to help your brain reprocess distressing experiences so they no longer feel as overwhelming. 

EMDR is often used for people who have experienced trauma, whether from a single event or ongoing life experiences, as well as those struggling with anxiety, grief, or symptoms of PTSD. 

J&J Healing Journeys, offers EMDR therapy covered by CalOptima and as a self pay service. Currently Jessica,
Jennifer, and Bridgette are all trained in EMDR. Bridgette has openings now and offers telehealth!

Somatic Experiencing is a body-based therapeutic approach that helps release trauma stored in the nervous system. By bringing gentle awareness to physical sensations, SE supports the body's natural capacity to heal from stress, shock, and chronic tension without requiring clients to relive painful memories in detail. Emily is a fully trained Somatic Experiencing Therapist. 

While talk therapy focuses primarily on thoughts and narrative, Somatic Experiencing works directly with the nervous system and physical sensations, which can be especially helpful for trauma that feels "stuck" in the body.

Jessica Orel-Mathon of J&J Healing Journeys serves as an assistant with Somatic Experiencing International and is highly trained in this modality. She offers support and supervision for Associate Therapist Emily Patterson who is fully trained by the SE organization. J&J Healing Journeys offers Somatic Experiencing as part of its holistic, trauma-informed approach for individuals and couples throughout California.

Yes. CalOptima through Medi-Cal in Orange County, covers mental health services for eligible members, including individual and couples therapy through in-network providers, which J&J Healing Journeys are and all of their therapists. 

J&J Healing Journeys is a CalOptima/Medi-Cal accepting therapy practice based in Orange County, offering trauma-informed, holistic care for individuals and couples. Founded by licensed clinicians Jennifer Schilling and Jessica Orel-Mathon, the practice offers EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, Internal Family Systems (IFS), the Gottman Method, and spiritual integration. 

J&J Healing Journeys offers a range of evidence-based and integrative modalities for CalOptima/Medi-Cal members including couples counseling, individual therapy, child therapy, family therapy. All specialized services are covered; EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, IFS, Gottman, Art Therapy, Play Therapy, Eco Therapy, and more! 

 J&J Healing Journeys also offers self pay therapy for those who are not covered under CalOptima. Our rate is $200/session. 

 J&J Healing Journeys sees clients in person in Costa Mesa. We offer in person sessions at Costa Mesa Fairgrounds Equestrian Center where you will be surrounded by life; nature and horses. Sessions in Costa Mesa are not interactive with horses and offered both outdoors or in a private room. 

 J&J Healing Journeys sees clients on telehealth throughout the state of California. We also offer services to clients with CalOptima Insurance from cities in Orange County including: Costa Mesa, Santa Ana, Anaheim, Orange,  Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, San Juan Capistrano, Mission Viejo, Fountain Valley, Los Alamitos, Irvine, San Clemente, and all other parts of the OC! 

J&J Healing Journeys does offer a sliding scale. If you are still unable to afford care we will provide a referral to an organization where you can get help at a lower cost. 

Yes we see children at J&J Healing Journeys. Children under 12 need to be seen in person in Costa Mesa. We do not provide telehealth for children under 12, we believe in person care is critical for younger children and offering play based, art based, and eco therapy processes are critical for healing this age group.
